Recently in California, property values have decreased drastically. According to California Law this entitles you to a Proposition 8 adjustment. Proposition 8 protects you when the market value of your property is lower than your current assessed value on the lien date (January 1) and allows you to have your taxes reduced. Unfortunately many counties do not grant Prop 8 adjustments automatically and when they do grant a Prop 8 they do not reduce values to the correct amount.
